This hotel got a little weird this morning. The TV in our room automatically turned on at 7 a.m.!!!
Anyway, we turned it off and had a snooze for a bit and then got up and had a cuppa tea. Then we came in for breakfast! We a mug of hot chocolate because the coffee machine was broken, and a kwussant and toast and jam.
And then we had scrambled eggs on toast with a few mushrooms. After that we were all stuffed!
We went upstairs to pack up (we forgot to photograph our passport stamps!) and then checked out of the hotel. Where are we going now?
Back down this way.....
That's Blackfriars train station there! Are we going home then?
We spotted a funny picture on the bridge!
We're back here again! Are you sure we're not going home??
Oh, I know where this is!!!
It's the Tate Modern!!!
We had a bit of time to spare before they opened so we left a CD here.
We wandered around the gardens a little and left a floppy disc here...
And then spotted a big poster!! We're going to see a Cezanne expedition!!!
We wandered back towards the Turbine Hall entrance and left another floppy disc....
And ANOTHER floppy disc!!
Here we are!!! Only a few more minutes to wait!
Then we were let in at 10 a.m.!!! There were two e-NORRR-mous hangy-uppy things in the turbine halls, both made with white stuff.
Like various fabric and woolly bits....
There's even some clay pipe stems from a few mudlarking sessions!! Can you spot them? They're hanging on strings in the middle!!!
Wow, that's rather impressive really!
After a quick look, we whizzed up to the third floor to see the expedition!
It was a really big expedition with lots of room and lots of paintings!!
Wonder where that road goes?
That's in the south of France.....
And that's an unfinished painting of Cezanne's son Paul. He was allowed to draw pictures in Cezanne's sketchbooks, so there were wonky drawings of wonky buildings next to professional sketches of hands and people!!!
Some of the paintings were almost abstracted.....
There were even some watercolour paintings too! We didn't know Cezanne did watercolours!
we like them......!
After a good look round, we went into the gift shop and bought some stuff. (We'll show you later)
Then we went back down to the Turbine Hall to have another look at the installations!!
You can some of the mudlarking finds here.....
And some of the pipe stems here!
And here too!!
Fun, huh?! Me and Sandy Bear went mudlarking once ages ago!!
Then we went to use the facilities and left a CD on the cubicle door. We washed our paws for ages afterwards.
And then we wandered off to find somewhere for lunch!
We went just past the Globe Theatre.....
And left another CD on the way.....
Left another floppy disc here too!!
And we've arrived at Tas Pide!!! Let's have lunch here!
Right, well they have a choice of set menus. There's this one....
And then these two.....
We got a table towards the back of the restaurant near this tile picture!
Fancy light fitting too....!
We decided on the Sahan menu, so we got a fizzy drink.....
And red lentil soup with warm flat bread.
Followed by a chicken casserole. That was a bit too much food for us though!!
But it was still yummy!!
After lunch we walked back the way we came.....
....onto Blackfriars Bridge!
We're getting a bus!!!
BUS BINGO ALERT!!! We got the number 63 bus!!
We're crossing the river!!!
And we got off here. We had to walk back the way we came a little and then go round the corner....
To another bus stop here.
BUS BINGO ALERT!!! We're getting the number 15!!!
We tied a floppy disc to the hand rail.
We're going past St Paul's Cathedral here....
OOoooo there's another one of them giant marbles we keep seeing!!
Wonder where this bus goes?
CHEESE SHOP!!! Hurrah!!
Oh hang on, this looks a bit familiar....
It's the Tower of London!!
We've been there before!!
We didn't get off there though - we're going to the end of the line!
Aldgate East? We're going through the east end of London now.
Ooo they're painting a muriel there!!
And there's more grafitti there too
OOOOoooooooo that's interesting!!!
Wonder if that's an art deco building? It might be...
The Mission? Google says the Seaman's Mission in Limehouse (the area of London we're in at the moment) was built in 1923 - 1924 which is the time art deco was..... so yeah. That fits!!
Oh that's pretty....!
Pretty church here.....
And then we finally ended up here at Blackwall DLR station. DLR is Docklands Light Railway which is elevated like this, and we're in the Docklands area of London now, near the O2 arena and the Excel centre.
We could just about see a train leaving the station!!
There's a sculpture there!
We had a bit of a wander round to try and find a view over the Thames but we couldn't quite work out the best way to go!!
Our sense of direction isn't very good here, although Navy Beanie would probably be good at sniffing out the sea water!!!
So then we made our way back to the station.....
....and back to the bus stop to get back into town.
BUS BINGO ALERT!! We're getting the number 15 bus again!!
We tied another floppy disc to the hand rail....
And we're back off to Central London!!
Parts of this route go through some run down areas (a bit like the 205), predominantly Muslim/middle Eastern with lots of clothes shops and eclectic fast food stores (like Oriental Kebabs or Turkish fish & chips!) but there's posh areas interspersed.
There's a carved wall there but we almost missed it!!
Whitehapel again!
Interesting.....
We're back at the Tower of London again!!
BAH! The camera automatically focussed on the metal thing on the window!!!
But we went past the Tower of London!!
This part of London was destroyed in the fire of 1666
That's a big train station.
And we got off here at St Paul's Cathedral!
That's the front of the cathedral....!
We waited at the same bus stop for another bus.
BUS BINGO ALERT!!! Last bus of the day, the number 17!
We gave them a CD!
Oh that's a pretty square!
Oooooooo!
There's a silver dragon there too!
Where are we going now?
Oh!! We got off here and I know where we are now!!!
We're going home!
We've had a fab little trip though!!
Yup, St Pancras Station, here we go....!
LADUREE?!?! (we'll show you what we bought later!!)
And only two minutes to wait for our train! Perfect!
We went down the front of the train and got a window seat!
And left the last of the CDs on the hand rail!
We came into Blackfriars Station but we didn't get off....
There's the Shard again!!! We're coming into London Bridge Station!!
When we got to East Croydon, the train we were on was heaving!! Just as well we got on at St Pancras, otherwise we wouldn't have seats!!
Love this bit!!
That's the South Downs over there!
And here we are at Brighton!!
And there were TWO BUSSES waiting outside for us!!!
And not long later, we got off here...... and just a short walk home!
And we got lots of shopping!!!
We got Trick or Macarons from Laduree!
Wonder which one it'll be?
MACARON!!! They're pumpkin flavour!
We got some Cezanne postcards and some clay soap. Andrea likes weird stuff like soap, can't understand it.
And this is going to be *Somebody's* chrimbo present!!!
We got bus #15 on our bingo card!! But not #63... phooie.
ReplyDeleteExcellent adventure!! We added the Mission to the map and the dragon statue too! And we got Bus #17 as well!!! Just need one more bus for a bingo!
