Experiment with onion skins

We'd collected up loads and loads of yellow and red onion skins and we decided to use them to dye a big piece of cotton. We scrunched them all up and tied it up with string and then put it in a big pan of hot water with a tablespoon of white vinegar

We'd also put some coffee grinds on top to see if they did anything!
An hour later, it looked like the cotton had taken on some colour!!

Coo....!!

After we let it cool down a bit, we unwrapped it and then spread it over the bathtub to dry!
There's pink and orangey bits and some olive green splodges!

and some pink splodges too!

Coo!!!

That was fun!!

After it had dried, we spread it out on the floor...

And then decided which bit we were going to use for our next project.

This bit!!

Now, which bit of dyed silk shall we use?

Ummm....

Ummmmm....
