What an Epic Adventure!!!

We got up silly early this morning which is a bit weird for a Sunday

But Andrea had said something about going to Somerset House for something.

Aha - so that means we're getting a train somewhere!!!

We used the facilities first and left them a CD.  And then washed our paws carefully.

Then we went and got on a train - it was mega packed busy though, very "elbows at dawn"!!

We love this bit!

Oh hang on!!!  We got off at East Croydon!!  What did we get off for??

And then we got another train to Clapham Junction!!!!!  What's going on?!?!?!?!

THEN we got on the Windrush line!!!  WHAT ARE WE DOING???!!!
Andrea then told me we had a change of plan...... we're having a roast lunch at Simplicity today but there's something about an Underground strike, and there's also a half marathon race on that goes past Rotherhithe and Canada Water, so all the roads will be closed and there won't be any buses from London Bridge Station!!!

So we got the overground train straight here!!!!!

And there's the runners on their way towards the finish line in Greenwich!!!

YAAAYY!!!!

YAAAAAYYY!!!

That's where we're going later!

We had a wander round first.....

And left a CD here.

Oh, I remember this bench!!

I can be a train driver today!!!
WOO-WOOOOO!

We left another CD here too

Then we went onto the Thames footpath - and the tide's out!
You know what this means don't you?!?!

We can do some beachcombing!
We put back some oyster shells from last time, that we'd already painted in a new painting.

OH!  That looks like a joint socket bone!

The broken end looks like a bone too.  Maybe spine??
Sandy's Mummy would know.

Oh wow, what a lovely day!!

Then we decided to have a sit down and do some painting.

We haven't done any On Plennyair.... On Plen.... outdoor painting forever, so it's a bit splotchy.

Meh.

OK so let's try this view.....

Oh.  Andrea's not so good at this outdoor painting lark.....!!!!

Then we decided to have a wander round and found a fire hydrant cover.

Then we looked in a church graveyard.

Some of the headstones have interesting markings on them

That's the Church .... you can go inside too

This one has a broken toy thing on it!

OOOoo - that's the memorial for the Pilgrim travellers on the Mayflower that went to America in the 1600s!!
The captain of the boat was from round here apparently.

We did a video of the writing at the bottom.

Gosh....

We left a floppy disc here.

and looked at some more grave markers.

And there's Hope Sufferance Wharf

And here's Simplicity, where we're having lunch!  It's lunchtime!

We wanted a beer to start, but because they're now only open on weekends until the 21st, they're running on basics to get the stock down before the new owners take over.  So we had a glass of wine instead and ordered their chicken roast dinner!  Lawrence is cooking on his own today and there's quite a few other people in for lunch so it took him a while.  But that's OK, we know it'll be a cracking lunch!

And BOY is this cracking!!!!  ALL THAT FOOD on one plate for me and Andrea!!!

AND cauliflower cheese!!!!!
OH.  YUM!!

Oh I'm so glad we came here today!!
We both tried our level best to finish it all....... we ate MOST of it, but couldn't QUITE manage all of it!!!

Later, the waitress brought round the menu chalkboard and asked if we'd like pudding.
Oh phew, we're both completely stuffed!!  So we asked if Lawrence could put some sticky toffee pudding in a doggy bag for us to take home ....... and he said yes!!!!  (no sticky toffee sauce or icecream though, because they'd soggy-fy the box)
So since it was now well past 2pm, we decided to set off...... and we gave Lawrence a big hug before we left, which was nice!  We're going to miss him......

So we set off down the road after a magnificent lunch....

As there weren't any more half marathon runners, we thought maybe there'd be some buses..... but the roads wouldn't officially be open until 3pm so we'd have to wait a while.....

So we decided to head back to the Underground instead.

And got back onto the Windrush line!

We got off here!!!

Right, so where do we go now?

Ummm...

Down here?

Ah!  Liverpool Street Station!  We can get a bus from there!

Down here - ooo, there's Ozzy Osbourne over there!!

and a sculpture thingy!

Um, think we go down here now

And we found some skulls!!

Loads of graffiti too!

AHA!  Here we are!

There's the gherkin down there!

And here's our bus!  The 205!

It was packed busy too

But we managed to tie a floppy disc to the hand rail!

And we're off!

And we got off here!!

At St Pancras!

It's a fabulous building!

Time to go home...

Oh, we gotta stop off here first though!!

And we did!!!  (We'll show you later!)

OH NO!!!  We normally get our train home from here but it's shuttered closed!!!!

What?  Eh?  We spoke to a station person and asked about the Brighton trains and he said we had to go to London Bridge to get our train home!

OK.... we could use the Northern line but that one freaks Andrea out (vertigo with the space between platform and train) so we're going by bus instead......

So we walked down here.....

Ah!  Here we are!

We left this here too!

BUS BINGO ALERT!!!  We're getting the 17!!

They got a floppy disc!!

And we're off!!

That's St Pauls Cathedral down there!

See?!!

It's pretty round here

And then we went over the Thames.....

And arrived at the station!

Now it really IS time to go home!!

We found our train was leaving in 9 minutes time from platform 4, so we dashed off to find it and got a window seat!

Oh, what a day...!

I've really enjoyed today!

It's been quite the adventure!

Of epic proportions even by my standards!!!!

Love this bit!

And we made it back home!!

And there's even a bus waiting for us outside!  Huzzah!

And then we got off at our stop and walked home...!

That's the sticky toffee pudding from Simplicity!  We'll put that in the fridge, for a midnight feast next Thursday when we get hungry again.

This is what we got from Fortnums - our favourite coffee and some Chef's cinnamon hunny.

We got some Thames glass at Rotherhithe too, we're going to send it to Arnty Helena!
She likes Thames glass!
We had the most amazing day, today!  We really did!!

  1. Wowzers! That is an epic adventure, even for you! And not hungry till next Thursday? That would be impressive too...
So is it... beachcombing now? Or is mudlarking only on a certain bit of the Thames?
And very few buses... and transport chaos... you did well!

    1. Well that particular section is called "Rotherhithe beach" on the maps (there's a section called Bermondsey beach as well) so I suppose you COULD get away with calling it beachcombing..... but then technically it's mudlarking by a different name! So both!!
