Movie review number 22
PLOT
This movie stars Liza Minelli as Sally Bowles, the cabaret singer/dancer and Michael York as Brian, the Cambridge University student in Berlin teaching English to Germans. Joel Grey is the rather creepy MC,(marginally less creepy than the Childcatcher from Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.) It starts in 1931 Berlin's with Brian arriving at Sally's lodging house looking for a cheap room to rent, and is shown in by Sally. Brian and Sally develop a friendship which turns "intimate" (!) But Sally is what's known as a "loose woman". Both of them later meet a Baron who takes them to fancy places and buys them fancy presents and generally spends wads of cash. In the meantime, the Nazi party is getting lots of attention. Brian even gets beaten up by a Nazi!
Anyway, back to the Baron. Sally ends up getting pregnant but doesn't know if it's Brian's baby or the Baron's baby. The Baron eventually goes back to wifey and it turns out Brian was sleeping with the Baron as well as Sally!!!!! Then Brian and Sally decide to get married..... But I won't tell you whether they actually do or not, or whether Sally keeps the baby or trades it in with the fur coat or not......
