Movie Review - "Amadeus"

Movie review number 23

PLOT
This movie starts in Vienna in the 1700s at the living quarters of ex-Court Composer Señor Salieri who seems to be having nightmares. His servants end up breaking the door down to discover he's attempted suicide and rush him to the lunatic asylum. Salieri (played by F Murray Abraham) recovers and is visited by  young priest to take his confession. What follows is the story of Salieri's arrival in Vienna as the Court composer to Emporer Franz Joseph and the arrival of upstart Amadeus Mozart played wonderfully by Tom Hulce. If you've not seen this yet, you'll always remember That Laugh!!!!
The story then moves onto Mozart's arrival in Vienna, at a concert put on for The Chief Church Pontiff and shows how Mozart was "pinched" by the Emporer Franz's Royal Court and pissing off the Church in the process.  Mozart's Dad got pissed off as well, as Mozart got married without Dad's permission!!
The story goes on to Mozart's "clash" against Royalty in regards to what's allowed to be shown in Theatre and Opera, and how Mozart's operas got adapted into Vaudeville.
The story then darkens when Salieri comes up with a Cunning Plan to bring down Mozart after his father's death, and secretly commissions Mozart to write a death requim........ planning on killing Mozart in the process and taking the requiem and passing it off as his own, thus claiming to be as talented, nay more talented than "his dear friend, Mozart".
But will he pull it off......???

RECOMMENDED

  4. One of them is in the movie!! Tokay is very yummy Hungarian dessert wine "fit for Emporers" back in the days of the Austro-Hungarian Empire, which is when this movie is set. Emporer Franz's sister was Marie Antoinette of the French civil war fame!!
